Study reveals generosity of the French when it comes to tipping

Study reveals generosity of the French when it comes to tipping - A study has revealed the generosity of the French when it comes to leaving a tip at restaurants. Residents of the Sud-Paca region are according to the study, the most generous in France with a third (33%) of customers in restaurants in the South-East of France leaving a “pourboire” when paying the bill. Next in the ranking comes the Normandy region, followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Tipping in France is a bit of a minefield for many visitors who are unsure of what is and isn’t acceptable. Maybe one way is to think of tipping in France as an unexpected gift and kind gesture rather than an obligation. When a customer does leave a tip its not usually based on a percentage like in the US or Canada.
