A man has died after being struck by a train in the Var. Witnesses described seeing the man use his mobile phone whilst crossing the tracks at Puget-Ville station before being hit by an oncoming train. Services were disrupted for several hours whilst emergency services attended the scene.

Two people have been killed in a microlight aircraft crash in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The craft took off from Fayance in the Var and came down in a remote and difficult to access area. A search  by fire and rescue services, including the use of a helicopter, located the wreckage near Entrepierre. An investigation has been opened to establish the cause of the crash.

Two teenagers have been taken into custody whilst allegedly making drugs deliveries. The car in which the two 17 year old girls were travelling was pulled over by police for dangerous driving. Drugs and cash were allegedly found in the vehicle.

Protesting famers have been blockading motorways in central France. The prefecture of the Cher department said that traffic on the A20 motorway heading towards Paris near Vierzon was disrupted by a convoy of tractors. Farmers also blocked a toll booth on the A10 motorway in the Loir-et-Cher department.

A jogger has suffered injuries after being shot by hunters in the Vaucluse department. The man in his twenties suffered gunshot wounds to his leg. He was taken to hospital in Avignon. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

There were over 1,200 deaths as result of workplace accidents in France in 2024, according to a new report. The annual analysis by the French health insurance system showed that over 20% of deaths occurred amongst employees who were in the first year of their job.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II is in Liguria in Italy today. The Prince will be welcomed at 10:30 a.m. in the hamlet of San Giovanni, the main town of the municipality, by the Mayor of Stella, Mr. Andrea Castellini, local dignitaries, and residents. He will then lay a wreath on the tomb of former President of Italy Sandro Pertini, who was from the town. Amongst other engagements, the Prince will also visit the ruins of the old castle, held by the Grimaldi family in the Middle Ages.

Several thousand French pupils are set to take part in scientific research involving the International Space Station. French astronaut Sophie Adenot will spend eight months in space next year during which an experiment will take place to compare the growth of seeds planted in the low gravity of the space station with growth in classrooms across France.

A local baker from the Var has received national French media coverage after driving his mobile bread making van across Ukraine to help local people. Loic Nervi, who refers to himself as “the baker without frontiers”, has made several trips to the country since 2022. He also volunteered at a bakery in Lebanon earlier this year. He and his family run several bakeries near Lorgues.
