Saint Tropez city council to help restart business activity - The town council of Saint-Tropez in the Var has announced measures being deployed to help restart business activities in the town.

Among the many initiatives, which affect health, social, cultural, sports, schools, but also economic life, the first are to be implemented. They include the cancellation of all taxes or charges for businesses during the confinement period and the extension of free parking on the port car park to five hours instead of half an hour.

Currently being considered is the possibility for the City to grant, sector by sector, an extension of the terraces of bars and restaurants, while respecting road safety measures. In order to allow businesses to respect social distancing.

In addition, the famous market at Place des Lices will open tomorrow Tuesday, May 12th. But it will be mainly reserved for food businesses. The reopening of the market as a whole is planned for June 2nd.

Eighteen people evacuated after fire breaks out - A fire has broken out during the night from Sunday to Monday, in Grasse. The fire service was alerted at around midnight, after thick smoke was seen coming from the basement of a two-story building, on avenue Louis-Cauvin in Grasse.

Eighteen residents were evacuated and have since been rehoused by the town hall. Firefighters managed to control the blaze. No injuries were reported.

School in Valbonne remains closed - The Ile Verde elementary school on the route de Biot, in Valbonne, will not reopen this Monday morning due to a suspected case of Covid-19. A member of staff was reported to be suffering from symptoms last week. The diagnosis remains uncertain to date, but as a precaution the school will remain closed until further notice.

A8 Motorway - The second phase of renovation work, on a section of the A8 in the Var, is currently underway. From today Monday May 11th the section between Brignoles and Le Cannet-des-Maures, eastbound in the direction of Nice is to undergo work which will see traffic circulating on one side of the motorway and limited to 90km/h. The work is expected to last until 29th May and will be carried out Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm.

The final phase will take place at night only from Monday 1st June to Tuesday 30th.
