British Woman Murdered in Dordogne: Police Renew Appeal for Witnesses - French gendarmes have issued a new appeal for information as the investigation into the killing of Karen Carter enters its seventh month with no major breakthrough. Carter, 65, who held both British and South African nationality, was stabbed to death outside her home in the village of Trémolat on 29 April. She had just returned from a wine-tasting evening and was taking her newly adopted puppy inside when she was attacked. Despite hundreds of interviews conducted in France, the UK and South Africa, and numerous leads explored — including the possibility of a contract killing — investigators have yet to identify a suspect. DNA collected from dozens of people has also failed to produce a match. Carter’s partner, who discovered her body, and another woman involved in a personal dispute were detained early in the inquiry but later released without charge.

The family’s lawyer welcomed the renewed appeal, expressing hope that fresh information might finally move the case forward. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the dedicated gendarmerie team by email or phone: Email: contact-dsr-hom24@gendarmerie.interieur.gouv.fr Phone: 06 07 55 81 46

Police stop to help motorist and uncover a drug delivery - A routine police patrol between La Ciotat and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer took an unexpected turn on Wednesday evening when officers stopped to help a young driver with a flat tyre — only to discover she was in the middle of delivering drugs. According to La Provence, the officers had pulled over on the corniche de l’Arène Cros to assist the 18-year-old when they detected a strong smell of cannabis resin coming from the vehicle. Confronted, the driver admitted she was carrying out home deliveries of drugs using a hired car, despite having no driving licence. Police seized around 100 grams of cannabis resin and €85 in cash, said to be the proceeds of an earlier transaction. The young woman, who had already been prosecuted in March for similar offences and was therefore a repeat offender, was placed in custody.

Only a few days left to amend your 2025 French tax return online -  Taxpayers in France have until 23:59 on Wednesday, 3 December to make any final online corrections to their 2025 tax declarations, which cover income received in 2024. Although the filing deadline passed months ago, the online correction service on impots.gouv.fr remains open for last-minute adjustments. Taxpayers can still add or amend information relating to salaries, pensions, rental income, deductible expenses, tax credits and professional costs. To make changes, users must log into their personal account and select “Accédez à la correction en ligne”. A revised tax statement will be issued afterwards, though it may take some time to appear. Those who filed via the impots.gouv mobile app must use the same app to correct their declaration. Paper filers have up to two years to make amendments via secure messaging or by writing to their local tax office. Some details — such as changes of address or family situation — cannot be updated through the online correction tool and must be reported directly to the tax authorities. After 3 December, corrections are no longer possible online, but taxpayers can still contact their local tax office via secure messaging, by letter or in person. Separately, anyone wishing to update their tax-at-source rate for 2026 must submit a new request by 6 December, using the “Gérer mon prélèvement à la source” section of their online account.

Brigitte Bardot’s animals moved from Saint-Tropez for care, says her foundation - While French actress Brigitte Bardot remains hospitalised in Toulon since mid-November, her foundation has transferred several of her animals from her Saint-Tropez property, La Garrigue, to one of its refuges, L’Arche B.B. According to Eric Gousset, the site’s caretaker, dozens of animals — including chickens, ducks, geese and fifteen goats were removed last Saturday, followed by Bardot’s donkey the next day. Gousset, who says he tried to intervene, claims the animals were taken without Bardot’s consent. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation firmly denies this, stressing that the animals officially belong to the organisation and that the transfer was made “in full agreement with Brigitte Bardot”, primarily to provide appropriate veterinary care. It also criticises Gousset’s allegations, saying Bardot expects him to focus on the animals’ wellbeing.

Only nine sheep and five Vietnamese pigs remain at La Garrigue, and they are expected to be moved this Saturday. All will be relocated to one of the foundation’s three refuges in France, where over 12,000 animals are currently cared for. Bardot, 91, had already been hospitalised earlier this autumn and had returned home in a weakened state after a difficult, heat-stricken summer. Since her readmission two weeks ago, no details have been released regarding her current health.

Christmas festivities begin in Nice today - Nice is switching on the Christmas spirit this Friday, 28 November, as the city launches its festive season running through to 4 January. More than 60 wooden chalets will once again line Place Masséna and the Jardin Albert-Ier, offering Christmas treats, crafts and local specialities. The traditional highlights return, including the panoramic Ferris wheel, food stalls, children’s rides and regular family-friendly entertainment. Across the city, neighbourhoods and cultural venues will also host festive activities throughout the season. The official switch-on of the Christmas lights takes place on this evening, unveiling more than 1,000 LED decorations, 200km of garlands, 54 seven-metre Christmas trees and the iconic eight-metre-tall Father Christmas near the Lenval hospital. Surrounding a 20-metre Christmas tree, five new scenes — The Enchanted Ballet, The Christmas Choir, The Reindeer’s Tea Party, The Christmas Sky and Midnight — will recreate whimsical winter tales. Children will also be welcomed by the resort’s five reindeer mascots, while Father Christmas will make appearances on 20, 21, 24 and 25 December. The façade of the Casino de Monte-Carlo will host a nightly sound-and-light show every weekend in December, and daily during school holidays, from 6pm to 10pm.

Festive cheer will spread throughout the resort, with decorations along Avenue des Beaux-Arts and One Monte-Carlo, and seasonal chalets offering treats and gifts on Avenue de Monte-Carlo until 4 January. Inside SBM’s landmark hotels, visitors can admire themed Christmas displays, including a Chopard tree at the Hôtel de Paris and music-box decorations at the Monte-Carlo Bay.

Families can enjoy Christmas Teas at the Hôtel Hermitage from 20 to 23 December, complete with workshops, buffets, magic shows and a visit from Father Christmas. Special children’s events will also take place at New Moods on 21 December. The season will offer an array of gourmet experiences, from festive pâtisserie by Cédric Grolet to a Black Truffle Dinner at Pavyllon on 12 December. Champagne lovers can stop by the Perrier-Jouët winter pop-up, while alpine-style chalets in the Jardins Boulingrins and at Blue Gin will serve winter treats and cocktails.

Across the resort, SBM’s restaurants will present special menus for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, culminating with an ABBA Tribute concert at Sporting Monte-Carlo to welcome 2026.
