Record heat recorded in the PACA region

Record heat recorded in the PACA region - The average temperature in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region was 2.8°C above normal for the season. It has been an "exceptionally hot" month of May in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.  After a particularly sunny start to 2022 in the south-eastern region of France, the fifth month of the year was no exception. For the month of May, the average aggregate temperature is 15.9°C in the region, i.e. 2.8°C above seasonal norms. A temperature level significantly higher than that recorded in recent years in fact a heat record of more than 60 years. It had never been this hot in the region since 1959. On the whole of the region, May 27th was the hottest day of the month with an average temperature of 20.6°C. The region experienced a particularly sunny month of May with an above-normal sunshine duration of 10 to 20%. As a result, since the beginning of the year, the drought persists in Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur with an insufficient level of rainfall in the region. All of the south-eastern departments experienced a rainfall deficit which was on average 53% compared to the usual monthly rainfall in May.
