Two men and a woman from Beaulieu-sur-Mer have been appearing in court today as part of a judicial investigation into suspected money laundering and tax fraud. The Nice prosecutor said that 40 gendarmes carried out searches and seizures at the homes of the suspects and their associates. Cash and seized valuables were valued at around €290,000. Seizures were also carried out on several bank accounts totalling €610,000.

Authorities have carried out an inspection of parcels at a postal parcel depot in Nice. According to the Alpes-Maritimes Prefecture, inspectors from the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations participated in the operation. It targeted parcels shipped through Shein and AliExpress. The prefecture said that “numerous non-conformities” were identified, such as missing markings and mandatory information and lack of correct labelling across 147 types of products.

French Minister of the Interior Laurent Nunez, and Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin have been in Marseille today to discuss the growing problem of drugs related violence in the city and wider region. Laurent Nunez said that there are currently 2,000 people under investigation linked to criminal gangs in Marseille and 900 people are in pre-trial detention. Gerald Darmanin said that the Baumettes prison in Marseille is undergoing an extension which he said would mean the facility will go “from 200 per cent prison overcrowding to 100 per cent”.

A teenager has been the victim of a stabbing in Avignon. The 17 year old was on his lunch break outside his school when he was attacked. He reportedly lost a significant amount of blood and was hospitalised, but his life isn’t thought to be in danger. The organised crime division of the police are carrying out an investigation.

A brief power outage early this morning affected about 170,000 homes in Paris and nearby areas. Power grid operator RTE said that a problem at a sub-station was the cause. The 6th, 7th and 15th arrondissements in the capital suffered a loss of power, according to energy company Enedis. 

A body has been discovered in a burned out car in the Isere department. An autopsy is being carried out to establish the cause of death and enquiries are underway to identify the victim. It’s believed to be that of a woman in her twenties.

The French Government has announced 61 new France Services [pronunciation: Serv-ees] centres to support people with their everyday administrative procedures. A total of 3,000 France Services centres will be accredited by early 2027. One of the new offices will be opening in Nice Saint-Augustin in the next few days.

This Sunday, November 23rd, the Beking cycling race will take place in Monaco for the fifth consecutive year. The event brings together professional cyclists based in Monaco, amateurs, and families around Port Hercule to promote cycling and support charities. Traffic and parking restrictions will be in place, mostly around the port area.
