New TikTok challenge causes concern

New TikTok challenge causes concern - A new challenge on TikTok which has gone viral and pushes teenagers to put themselves in danger is causing concern amongst many parents. The #JeuDuLabello or #LabelloChallenge is also called #ChapstickChallenge in English. France’s Ministry of the Interior has recently warned against the challenge which “would push young people to suicide”.

Originally, the principle was rather playful: apply a scented lip balm and have his or her kissing partner guess the taste, all filmed and broadcast on the application in a video. As often on social networks, the phenomenon has gone viral and the rules of the game were hijacked. The #LabelloChallenge or #ChapstickChallenge is however not so new and even dates back to more than a year ago. An American site specializing in digital news already mentioned the challenge in March 2021. But for researcher Pascale Ezan, it remains difficult to go back precisely to the source of this kind of phenomenon.

For the time being, no incident related to this challenge has been reported in France.
