May 8th - Following this morning’s traditional victory ceremony for May 8th in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected in Lyon this afternoon to pay tribute to Jean Moulin and the Resistance. This morning the Head of State took part in the traditional parade on the Champs-Elysées accompanied by the great escort of the Republican Guard and Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. Macron laid a wreath and rekindled the flame of the unknown soldier at 11am this morning which was followed by a minute’s silence.

This afternoon the president will recall "the essential political role" of Jean Moulin. In his speech, Emmanuel Macron intends to underline how the resistant allowed the unification of the Resistance and the emergence of a free France.
