Presidential election - The first round of the presidential elections will be held in 4 days, and the candidates are throwing their last forces into battle. The leader of the republican party Valérie Pécresse has denounced an "increase in violence" during Macron’s term going on to detail her programme for security saying she wants to "enshrine safety in the constitution", with minimum prison sentences, promising "video protection everywhere" and she spoke in favour of “compulsory municipal police”, "armed and with much more power".

Meanwhile the leader of left Anne Hidalgo has also attacked Emmanuel Macron for refusing to participate in last night’s election debate on France 2, unlike all the other candidates.
