Vaccination opens in France for 5–11-year-olds from today - France's health minister Oliver Véran has announced "without delay" the opening of covid vaccination to all children aged 5 to 11. From today Wednesday 22nd December, all children aged 5 to 11 are therefore eligible for a dose of the Pfizer vaccine against covid.

Companies told to prepare for teleworking in New Year - Meanwhile France's employment minister has this morning asked companies to strengthen teleworking from the new year. Elisabeth Borne wants companies to "prepare now for a new framework that will apply in early 2022" with "3 days minimum and 4 days if possible".

Pilot dies after two-seater plane crashes - The pilot of a small two-seater plane has died after it crashed in Charbuy in the Yonne, not far from the aerodrome of Auxerre-Branches on Tuesday evening. According to reports the victim is a 54-year-old man" and "at this time, we do not know if he was alone in the aircraft or if he was accompanied by another passenger".  The circumstances of the accident also remain to be determined.

Fire in apartment in Nice - One person is in a critical condition in hospital and five others are being cared for by the emergency services following a fire in an apartment in Nice this morning Wednesday 22nd December. Firefighters were alerted shortly after 7am after smoke was seen coming from the 4th floor apartment located on Boulevard Paul Montel West of Nice. The blaze was under control about an hour after firefighters intervened. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.

5G deployed at Isola 2000 - This week the ski resort of Isola 2000 welcomed 5G technology, making it the first ski resort in the Alpes Maritimes to do so. The mayor has welcomed the move saying that "as 5G offers speeds 5 to 10 higher than those of 4G, visitors to the resort will have a better connection especially during busy periods". Auron should follow suit next year. Then Valberg, and all the resorts of the Southern Alps.
