Shocking images-Pictures of Wednesday’s fatal accident on the A8 motorway have been published by the Nice Matin newspaper and show a scene of carnage.

A truck and 5 cars were involved in the accident between Les Adrets and Mandelieu on Wednesday afternoon which cost the life of one person and left two more in a critical condition.

It’s not yet clear why the truck which was travelling eastbound crossed the carriageway and ploughed through the central reservation ending up on other side of the road where it collided with 5 cars.

An investigation is underway to discover the cause of the accident.

 

Cannes 2021-Today’s competition films at the 74th Cannes Film Festival are

“Lingui” or “The Sacred Bonds” by Mahamat Saleh-Haroun which tells the story of a pregnant 15 year old girl in Chad who finds herself in an impossible situation in a strict Muslim country.

This evening , the new film from Joachim Trier is being shown. “The worst person in the world” is the story of Julie , a 30 year old woman torn between settling down with her partner or falling for the charms of a younger man. The film is in Norwegian and concludes the director’s Olso Trilogy which started with “Reprise” and continued with “Oslo”.

 

Mandatory vaccinations ? The president of the Alpes Maritimes General Council has said that he is in favour of mandatory coronavirus vaccines “if necessary”.

Charles-Ange Ginesy says that citizens have a “duty to be responsible” and while it would be better to convince people of the need to get vaccinated , mandatory inoculation cannot be ruled out.

Mr Ginesy was speaking as the delta variant continues to spread fast across France and in particular in the Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur region.

 

Travel warning-The French government has issued a warning for people who have booked or are considering a holiday in Spain or Portugal.

The French European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune says that because of the rapid spread of the delta variant across both countries ,it would be preferable for French nationals to stay away.

Mr Beaune was speaking on France 2 television this morning and warned that the delta variant is spreading fast across Europe and caution is required.

 

Fatal brawl-Authorities are continuing to investigate the mass brawl that broke out in Golfe Juan in the early hours of last Saturday.

A 36 year old Portuguese man died in the fight and 6 others suffered knife wounds.

Some 300 people were involved in the brawl which broke out following a birthday  party organised by the local Cape Verdean community and publicised on social media.

A number of suspects are still being interviewed by police.
