Road accident - Several people including a five-year-old child, have been injured in a major pile-up on the N7 in Avignon in the Vaucluse. The accident occurred in the direction of Cavaillon this morning involving at least ten vehicles. Traffic was halted in both directions while emergency services intervened. The cause of the collision is not yet known.

Covid cases in Monaco - Monaco declared 32 new cases of Covid over the weekend bringing the total of residents affected to 1,489. At present 63 people are currently hospitalised and 7 are in intensive care. On Saturday the Principality deplored its 13th death from Covid since the beginning of the pandemic, an 86-year-old resident. To date 1,257 people have recovered from Covid in the Principality and 122 people are being followed by the Home Monitoring Centre.

Taxi rates - Taxi rates between Nice airport, Monaco and Cannes are set to increase today by five euros. A trip from Nice airport to Cannes will now cost 85 euros. Meanwhile a trip from the airport to the centre of Nice remains unchanged at 32 euros.

Ikea closes most of its stores in France - The Ikea group has announced the closure of almost all of its stores in France following announcements from the government. Two stores will remain open, one in Vélizy (in the Paris region) and the design workshop in the center of Nice. While many Ikea stores are less than 20,000m² including the store in Toulon-La Valette, the group announced the closures on Sunday 31st January. The stores online service is available as well as purchases through click-and-collect.
