Weather warning - The Alpes Maritimes has been placed on an orange weather alert today with winds of up to 100km/h forecast. Meteo France placed the region on alert on Sunday. Heavy rain is expected throughout the day. The warning is in place until 4pm this afternoon. Meanwhile in the hinterland a yellow weather alert is in place for snow and ice as well as avalanches in the mountains.

Fire breaks out in hotel in Antibes - One person has been seriously injured and 9 others slightly injured after a fire broke out in a hotel room in Antibes on Sunday. More than 50 people were evacuated and relocated. Firefighters intervened shortly after midnight tackling the flames on the first floor of the "Appart city hotel" located on the Chemin Saint-Claude. An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire.

Motorist seriously injured after car smashes into shop window - A woman has been seriously injured after her car smashed into a shop window in the centre of Cannes. The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on the rue d'Antibes. According to witnesses, a pedestrian, who was walking on the pavement at the time had a lucky escape. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Masks once again mandatory in schools in France - From today Monday 15th November wearing a mask in primary school is once again mandatory in France. The measure has been reintroduced following an epidemic rebound.

Nice candidate for European Capital of Culture 2028 - Nice is applying for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2028. Christian Estrosi, the mayor of the city has said that to win the title would be "a great boost for the city". After consulting the European Parliament, it's the Council of Ministers of the European Union who shall decide. Nice is not the only one to compete for the title. Speaking on its candidacy the town's mayor said that "to make Nice the European Capital of Culture is obvious due to its location, history, architecture. Nice is both a great European and cultural capital".
