Mayor of Nice calls for reinforcement - The mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi, has called on the prefect of the Alpes Maritimes for an increase in the number of officers. The request comes after what the mayor described as “irresponsible behaviour” as many gathered past the 11pm curfew on the cities beaches with no social distancing and not wearing masks.

According to France’s director of health Jérôme Salomon the wearing of a mask outdoors should be lifted in France on June 30th. Salomon added that "If all goes well, authorities will remove the obligation to wear a mask outdoors however, it would remain an obligation indoors”.

Number of covid patients and deaths from covid continues to decline in France - The number of hospitalised patients and deaths from covid continues to decline in France with Public Health France reporting 13 deaths from covid in the last 24 hours. 12,480 patients are currently in hospital, the lowest figure since mid-October and 2,106 are in intensive care. 2,855 new cases have been identified over last 24 hours, compared to more than 5,000 recorded the previous Sunday. 30.25 million people have received at least one injection of the covid vaccine, and 15.76 million are fully vaccinated. From tomorrow Tuesday 15th June the vaccination campaign will be open for all 12 to 17-year olds.

Driving licence - While the British Embassy has stated that it is waiting for the French to ‘implement legal changes’ before the final arrangements can be revealed concerning people in France who drive on a UK licence, post-Brexit. France’s Interior Minister has said that a deal can be expected “very soon”.  A spokesman for the Interior Minister has reportedly said “negotiations on UK licences should come to a positive conclusion soon”.

Hot weather - Météo-France has forecast temperatures of between 33 to 35 degrees today from the southwest to the southeast of France reaching up to 37 degrees in the Languedoc-Rousillon.
