Nice shooting-The police officer who shot a suspect dead in Rue de la Buffa in Nice on Wednesday has told investigators that it was “a complete accident”.

The suspect ,who was wanted in connection with a murder in the Las Planas area of the city on Christmas Eve ,was killed during a police operation which the State Prosector says was “botched”.

Attempts to revive the man failed and he died at the scene. The officer in custody has said that his weapon went off “accidently”.

13 other officers are being interviewed by police from the internal inquiry division.

Covid tests-French supermarkets have sold nearly 17 million lateral flow Covid-19 tests since the 28th of December.

The number of tests sold is worth 25 million euros and sale in supermarkets was authorised by the government last month and will continue until the end of January.

Pharmacies have complained about what they say is unfair competition.

Antibes construction-The new face of the centre of Antibes is taking shape but is getting a mixed reaction from residents.

Old familiar buildings have been pulled down to be replaced by new ,modern constructions although the traditional feel of the town has been maintained in some areas.

Traffic and parking has been affected in the areas where building work is taking place but things are gradually taking shape.

Fibre broadband-Residents in the Golfe de Saint Tropez will have to wait another year until they’re able to sign up for high speed fibre-optic internet services.

Work to install the new network has been delayed and won’t be completely finished until early 2024 although some areas will be connected before that.

Many businesses as well as households are waiting for the new service impatiently but when it is ready it will vastly improve connection speeds.
