Minute’s silence for the people of Ukraine - The elected officials of Nice have observed a minute’s silence, this Friday morning at the opening of the municipal council. Officials voted unanimously to introduce aid for the Ukrainian people, in particular the collection of medicines and food as well as the reception of refugees in the region. Speaking at the opening of the council meeting the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi “condemned with great firmness the conflict”.

Macron suggests that “the worst is yet to come” – And French President Emmanuel Macron has said that he thinks "the worst is yet to come" concerning the war in Ukraine and that Vladimir Putin's goal is to "take control of all of Ukraine". According to the Elysée during a 90 minute telephone conversation, the Russian president told his French counterpart that the Russian army operation would "get worse" if the Ukrainians did not accept its conditions.

Restos du Ceour - The charity organisation the Restos du Coeur begin their annual collection today Friday, March 4th until Sunday March 6th.  The association's volunteers will be waiting for you at the checkout counters of hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores to stock up on food and hygiene products. The association is mobilizing 1,500 volunteers for three days in 150 stores in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. According to 2019 figures from INSEE, in France, 9.2 million people live below the poverty line (14.6% of the population).

French President announces candidacy for elections - French President Emmanuel Macron has officially announced his candidacy for the presidential elections in a letter to the French. Macron chose to publish the letter in regional newspapers from this morning Friday 4th March and will make a formal application to the Constitutional Council before the 6pm deadline this evening.
