French President calls for Qatar to continue reforms

French President calls for Qatar to continue reforms - French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Qatar to "continue" their reforms. On the side-lines of the World Cup which is being held in Qatar, Macron at the weekend said that “he wishes to see a continuation of the changes made”. Qatar has been harshly criticized for the deaths, accidents and unpaid wages of foreign workers in preparation for the tournament. But has since passed major reforms to improve safety. The authorities have also paid hundreds of millions of euros to compensate for unpaid salaries, however for human rights associations, these reforms are late and insufficient. On November 17th, on the eve of the start of the competition, Emmanuel Macron felt that it was not necessary to "politicise sport".
