Arrests made during Halloween celebrations - Several incidents have broken out in Cannes, Grasse and Nice during Halloween celebrations. Seven arrests were made throughout the night and along the Côte d’Azur after fireworks were set off and police were threatened. Local MP of the Alpes Maritimes Eric Ciotti declared that police in Nice were confronted by “violent individuals who burnt cars and wanted to fight". One local official deplored the behaviour saying that “Halloween is supposed to be a party, a party for children and not when police become a target”.

Weather warning - Meteo France has issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes this morning, making them two of 56 departments across France under a yellow weather warning. The warning was issued from 6am to midday in the Var and from 8am to midday in the Alpes-Maritimes. Four other departments in the west of France have been placed on an orange alert due to strong winds and thunderstorms. Meteo France today’s weather will mark an end to period of exceptionally mild and warm weather which we have been experiencing recently.

16-year-old shot dead at drugs sale point in Avignon - A 16-year-old boy has been shot dead at a drug sales point in the Monclar district, south of Avignon. The incident occurred at around 9.30pm on Sunday evening. The victim is said to be a "watchman". At the end of May 2021, in the heart of the same district, two men aged 20 and 34 lost their lives in the same circumstances. A police officer was also killed on May 5th, 2021 during an intervention near a drug trafficking point in the centre of Avignon. At the end of 2020, the Vaucluse, one of the poorest departments in France, had 84 deal points, which represents 15 points of sale per 100,000 inhabitants.

Police deployed ahead of football match in Marseille tonight - Police have been deployed in Marseille city centre ahead of this evening’s Champions league match between Marseille and Tottenham, for which 1,700 places have been allocated to English supporters. This evening police will also be present in and around the Vélodrome stadium kick off is at 9pm.

Car ends up on its roof on A8 motorway - Traffic has been severely disrupted on the A8 motorway after a vehicle overturned. The incident occurred at around 11am on Monday morning eastbound, at Adrets-de-Estérel. Two children are said to have go out of the vehicle alone while a 60-year-old woman was trapped inside. Emergency services intervened and the passengers were airlifted to hospital. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Woman injured after accident on moped - Meanwhile, police in Saint-Tropez are investigating another road accident which occurred on Monday, after a woman on a moped was left seriously injured after crashing into a low wall on the Route des Oliviers in Grimaud.

Vehicles to be equipped with snow chains or winter tyres - From today November 1st for 28 municipalities in the Var region, it will be compulsory to equip your vehicle with snow chains or winter tyres. While the snow is not yet on the horizon motorists in the 28 towns concerned must be equipped.

17-year-old cycles from Germany to Monaco to raise money - Finally, 17-year-old Marianne has cycled across the Alpes from Germany to Monaco to raise funds for a school in Ethiopia. Marianne Roy travelled 900 km between Lindau, Germany, and Monaco to help young girls in Ethiopia through the Monaco Humanitarian Association.

Business

Elon Musk has cemented his control over Twitter by dissolving the social media platform’s board of directors. The multi-billionaire will be its chief executive after buying the company last week, ending months of back and forth over the $44bn (£38.3bn) deal. The reforms he is contemplating include changes for how Twitter verifies accounts, as well as job cuts.

Meanwhile, Instagram users across the world have been reporting issues accessing their profiles. The Meta-owned social network says it is "looking into" the problem, which has caused some people to be told they are suspended from the platform. DownDetector says it has found that thousands of users are affected. Some have been shown a message saying that their account has been shut down for 30 days.

And - New rules designed to rein in the dominance of big tech companies are coming into force in the EU. Under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), technology giants such as Google and Apple could be made to open up their services and platforms to other firms and developers. Messaging apps, for example, could be required to work with smaller rival applications. The legislation will not apply in the UK because of Brexit.

Football - Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba will miss France's World Cup defence in Qatar as he needs more time to recover from a knee operation. France's first World Cup match is against Australia on 22 November.

Cricket - Ben Stokes has been backed to "come to the fore" in England's crucial T20 World Cup match today against New Zealand. Stokes has a high score of 17 not out in five innings after being recalled to the T20 side following 18 months out.

Rugby Union - Captain Courtney Lawes has been ruled out of England's match with Argentina at Twickenham on Sunday. Lawes is still experiencing symptoms after suffering a head injury in September and will not join up with the squad this week.

Tennis - British men's number one Cameron Norrie started the final regular ATP Tour event of the season with a straight-set win at the Paris Masters. Norrie, 27, looked sharp in a 6-2 6-4 victory against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round.

Thundery showers and gentle breeze. There is a yellow weather warning in place for the Alpes Maritimes and the Var. Highs of 19 degrees in Nice, 21 in Cannes and Saint-Tropez. This evening going down to 12 degrees.

The outlook for Wednesday and Thursday. Sunny with light winds tomorrow. Showers are expected to return on Thursday highs of 19 degrees.
