French actor Gerard Depardieu calls for negotiations - French actor Gerard Depardieu, a friend of President Vladimir Putin and a Russian citizen since 2013 has spoken out against the war in Ukraine and called for negotiations. Speaking to the French news agency AFP the actor said "Russia and Ukraine have always been brother countries, adding he was against the war and calling for negotiations”. It was in 2013, that the 73-year-old actor sparked a huge outcry by leaving France and taking Russian nationality in protest at a proposed tax hike by President François Hollande's on the rich in his homeland.

Since in a statement released this morning Depardieu has cancelled his performance this weekend in Antibes. The actor was to perform songs by Barbara on March 4th and 5th at the Anthéa theatre in Antibes.
