NEWS
Weather today - The Alpes-Maritimes are under a yellow thunderstorm alert today. Storms are expected mainly in the Nice hinterland, with rain also around Grasse as temperatures will range from 18-24°C.

Money-laundering network dismantled - French and Italian authorities have dismantled a major international money-laundering network tied to the DZ Mafia, which moved over €30 million in less than a year. Raids uncovered €2.4 million in cash, 55 gold bars, luxury goods, and vehicles, with multiple suspects arrested in both countries. The investigation, backed by Europol and Eurojust, is ongoing to trace the funds’ origins and all actors involved.

Criminal arrested in Nice - A 36-year-old linked to drug trafficking and Corsican organized crime has been arrested yesterday in Nice after escaping police custody during a hospital transfer in August. Already sentenced to 15 years for organized crime and arson, he is also tied to one of Corsica’s major criminal gangs.

Chikungunya cases - Over 100 local cases of chikungunya have been reported in Antibes since the summer, with numbers rising rapidly in recent weeks. An FR-Alert notification was sent to all phones in the area this morning to warn residents and visitors. Authorities are carrying out mosquito control operations and urging precautions like repellents, protective clothing, and eliminating stagnant water.

Missing person - A 30-year-old man from Avignon has been missing since leaving a nightclub on Sunday night.  His phone and bank activity stopped around 3:40am, and sniffer dogs traced his sent to the Rhône riverbank, where divers and drones are now searching. Police have opened an investigation for a worrying disappearance, while his family appeals for witnesses.

Boars crash a funeral - A funeral has been delayed after wild boars with piglets were found inside a family vault at Antibes’ Semboules cemetery. A professional had to remove the animals before the ceremony could continue, surprising mourners and staff. To prevent further intrusions in the natural park cemetery, the town plans to reinforce fencing and build barriers.
 

NEWS UPDATE 
Police officer injured - A BAC police officer has been hit and slightly injure by a car after the driver refused to stop during a check near La Bocca in Cannes. Police are conducting a search to locate the fleeing driver.

Local Health Council - Nice has called an exceptional Local Health Council after a surge in chikungunya cases linked to the tiger mosquito. Despite preventive actions since June, the Alpes-Maritimes department now reports 140 local cases, with 312 across the PACA region. tomorrow's meeting will gather experts and health professionals to strengthen coordinated protection measures for residents.

Hyeres hospital regulated by SAMU until Sunday - The Hyères hospital emergency department will be regulated by the SAMU Centre 15 until Sunday this week due to staff shortages. Patients must call 15 before going, except for maternity emergencies, women and children victims of violence, or those already referred. 

Monaco's tourism industry wins 3 awards - Monaco’s business tourism industry has won three awards at the 2025 M&IT Awards in London, a leading global event for the sector. The Convention Bureau was named Best Overseas Convention Bureau for the third year, while the Grimaldi Forum earned Best Overseas Convention Centre. Event agency Raising Stones Events also received a Silver Award, highlighting Monaco’s global reputation for quality and professionalism.

Future karting champion to be rewarded - APM Monaco and Box 98 have launched a program offering a €30,000 scholarship to discover a future karting champion. From October 2025 to May 2026, 240 children aged 7–10 will compete in time trials at Fontvieille, leading to finals with 32 participants. The winner will be announced at the Monaco Grand Prix in June 2026, giving young talent a chance to pursue a racing career.
 

BUSINESS
According to an Oxford Economics report, YouTube creators have added £2.2bn to the UK economy in 2024, supporting 45,000 job. A new all-party parliamentary group has been launched to represent UK creators, with MPs calling them pioneers of a "new creative revolution." Creators welcomed the move as long-overdue recognition, highlighting challenges like funding, training, and studio space access.

And - A South Korean court sentenced Aricell CEO Park Soon-kwan and his son to 15 years in prison each after a 2024 lithium battery factory fire killed 23 workers, mostly foreigners. The court ruled it was an “anticipated disaster” caused by safety failures, marking the longest jail term under the country’s industrial safety law. Prosecutors said poor safety measures and blocked escape routes worsened the tragedy, despite Park denying lapses.
 

SPORTS
Football - 102 AS Roma ultras have been arrested last night after clashes with OGC Nice fans ahead of their Europa League match in Nice. Police seized weapons and improvised arms, and all detainees were placed in custody. For today’s game, security was reinforced with over 400 officers, strict checks, and bans on Roma supporters in parts of the city and around the stadium.
Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Gavi could miss five months of the season after having knee surgery.

Cricket - Gloucestershire white-ball captain Jack Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension.

Formula 1 - Fernando Alonso says it would be "very hard" to retire from Formula 1 at the end of 2026 if Aston Martin are not competitive next season.
 

WEATHER
It is bright and clear along the riviera however a yellow thunderstorm alert has been issued for the inland areas of the Alpes-Maritimes. Strong winds also bring slightly cooler temperatures as the autumn season settles in with highs of 24 degrees in Cannes, 22 in Nice and Saint-Tropez and 20 degrees in Toulon and Marseille.

Outlook for tomorrow, mostly clear skies with chances of light rain near Tende early evening accompanied by moderate winds and highs of 22 degrees.
