Evening Update Tuesday 4 November2025

The driver of a vehicle involved in a serious accident in Cannes has been charged and detained in police custody. The accident happened on Boulevard Carnot last Friday. One person, a woman in her thirties, remains in hospital in a critical condition. A teenager in her car was seriously injured and a twelve year old also received less serious injuries.

A “school strike” has been organized by teachers at a middle school in Nice. Teachers have asked parents not to send their children to the school in the St Roch district in protest at what they say are a lack of resources, overcrowding and disciplinary issues.

Monaco's statistics body IMSEE has published a new study on the gender pay gap in the Principality. The study found that in the public sector in 2024, women's average base salary exceeded men's by 2.4%. However, in the private sector, men's average monthly salary was 18.6% higher than women's.

An association which represents businesses in the French automotive sector is meeting in Paris today to protest at the European Union ban on the sale of vehicles with internal combustion engines from 2035. The PFA said that the decision is “political” are asking for “more flexibility”. 

The trial has begun today of the French industrial company Lafarge and eight people, accused of financing terrorism. The prosecution alleges that the company paid several million euros to terrorist groups in Syria in order to keep the company's local cement plant operating during the civil war. The trial is scheduled last until early December.
