Authorities in Marseille have evacuated two shanty towns. The sites had been illegally occupied for five years by about a hundred people, according to the Prefecture. The Prefect of the Bouches-du-Rhone said that the operation was prompted by a fire at one of the encampments yesterday which disrupted nearby rail traffic.

The Bouche-du-Rhone Prefect has issued a decree authorising the installation of three hundred additional public security cameras in Marseille. The new installations are expected to bring the total to two thousand cameras in the city by the end of the year.
