The incident occurred at around 2am on Thursday morning. The victim had just left the Saint-Augustin service area on foot when the collision occurred in a dark, unprotected section near the BP station access ramp. The CRS Autoroutière Provence has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

L214 plans surprise awareness action in central Nice, targeting local MPs - Animal rights group L214 is preparing an unusual awareness action in central Nice for this Saturday 15th November, aiming to prompt local MPs to take a stand against intensive farming. The initiative comes just over a month after the association staged a similar event on Place Masséna, where activists used a “human counter” to address candidates in the 2026 municipal elections. The location for Saturday’s action has not been disclosed but will remain in the city centre, where L214 intends to engage passersby and highlight what it describes as urgent issues of animal mistreatment linked to industrial farming practices. The association says the demonstration is designed to “make an impression” and encourage elected officials to act.

Saadé family expands empire with stake in Carrefour - The Saadé family, owners of shipping giant CMA CGM, has entered the French retail sector by becoming the second-largest shareholder in Carrefour. The move, announced on Wednesday 12th November, follows a €400m investment made through a new entity, Carrix, jointly held with CMA CGM. Rodolphe Saadé will join Carrefour’s board on 1st December. The Marseille-based family, whose business began in Lebanon in the 1930s, has rapidly diversified in recent years. CMA CGM, now the world’s third-largest shipping company with more than 650 vessels and operations in 177 countries, has expanded into ports, media, and entertainment. Major acquisitions include Altice Media in 2024, bringing BFM-TV and RMC under its control, and a stake in Pathé’s film group in 2025. The group also bought digital media outlet Brut earlier this year. With a 4% stake, the Saadés sit behind only the Moulin-Houzé family (Galeries Lafayette), which holds around 9.5% of Carrefour. Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard welcomed the arrival of Rodolphe Saadé, saying his “vision and experience” would support the retailer’s long-term strategy as it undergoes a portfolio review to improve profitability.

Frankie the Flamingo Wins Her Freedom After Flying from Cornwall to France - An escaped flamingo from Paradise Park in Hayle has been granted her freedom after completing a remarkable 120-mile flight across the Channel to Brittany. Four-month-old Frankie, who had partially clipped wings, left the park on 2nd November and was later confirmed to have reached Plage de Keremma in France. Keepers said attempts to recapture her would be too difficult and could pose health risks, including potential exposure to avian influenza. Park curator David Woolcock said that while Frankie was never meant to live in the wild, similar flamingos have survived for years in Europe. Footage from France shows her feeding well and adapting successfully to her new environment. Paradise Park staff say they will continue to monitor reports from French wildlife observers, while Frankie’s parents and the rest of the flock remain in good health back in Cornwall.

World’s largest AS Monaco shirt collection - AS Monaco fan and collector Julien Bouron has set a new world record after unveiling 1,146 club jerseys at the team’s Performance Centre. For a day, the facility became a museum of Rouge-et-Blanc heritage, with shirts from the 1950s to the present laid out diagonally across the pitch in tribute to the club’s iconic design. Bouron, whose passion began in 2000, has spent nearly two decades gathering match-worn and match-prepared shirts, including rare pieces linked to stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Thierry Henry, Radamel Falcao and David Trezeguet. Highlights range from a 1998 Champions League away shirt to a 1985–86 kit featuring a manufacturing error. The official count confirmed the 1,146-shirt total, surpassing the previous world record held by a Liverpool supporter. AS Monaco’s deputy CEO Olga Dementeva praised the initiative as a celebration of the club’s history. Selected jerseys are already on display in the VIP Lounge at Stade Louis-II.
