A man has been arrested after making threats to attack a synagogue in our region. In a post on social media, the man threatened to “blow up” the synagogue in Cannes. Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard said that the individual is from a neighbouring municipality and has been taken into police custody.

President Macron will visit Marseille in mid-December as part of the government’s anti-drugs strategy. The announcement of his visit came after a meeting at the Elysees Palace today which brought together those involved in fighting drugs trafficking and organised crime. According to the government, 900 people are currently in pre-trial detention in France for drugs trafficking and 2,000 people have been charged. The Interior and Justice ministers, Laurent Nunez and Gerald Darmanin, will visit Marseille this Thursday to meet with magistrates and police. 

Two people are appearing in court in Nice today charged with several animal welfare offences. They allegedly kept two dogs in inhumane conditions in cages in the Madeleine district of the city. The animals are now with animal welfare organizations in Monaco and Vence.

An inquiry has been opened after the body of a four year old girl was discovered in the Rhone department. The child’s mother has been placed in a hospital psychiatric facility. 

The Restos du Coeur has started its annual food distribution operation today. In its 2024 to 2025 fundraising campaign, the charity donated 161 million meals to vulnerable people. The organisation said that 77% of the people it serves live on less than 644 euros per month.

Monaco has taken over the presidency of an organization for the protection of marine mammals. The Principality will hold the presidency for the next two years of the Pelagos Sanctuary, an 87,500 square km protected area created jointly by France, Italy, and Monaco.

The Var prefecture has warned against fraud this Christmas season. It said to be beware of people knocking on doors falsely claiming to be firefighters or refuse collectors.
