Former President Nicolas Sarkozy sentended to 5 years in prison - Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison with a deferred incarceration order. He was convicted of criminal conspiracy but acquitted of corruption in the 2007 Libyan campaign financing case. He will be notified within a month of his prison date, and an appeal will not suspend the sentence.

Farmers allowed to shoot wolves in 2026 - French farmers will be allowed to shoot wolves attacking their herds in 2026 without prior state authorization, only declaring it afterward. The government says this responds to frequent wolf attacks, especially in the Alpes-Maritimes, but animal rights groups warn it risks uncontrolled hunting and undermines conservation efforts. The attacker claimed the stabbing was accidental during a confrontation but was found responsible for permanent injury.

Officials stressed it was due to an operational directive, not driver error or distraction as some passengers joked.

Médecins de Garde Monaco - Monaco will launch a night-time medical on-call service called Médecins de Garde Monaco in October from 7pm to 7am, including weekends and holidays. It will allow residents to get home visits after 10pm by calling 116 117, avoiding unnecessary trips to the ER. Run by local doctors under nonprofit rules, the system ensures quick response, capped fees, and full traceability of calls.

Roadworks suspended - Roadworks on Avenue Prince-Rainier-III on the Moyenne Corniche in Cap-d’Ail that caused heavy traffic jams by reducing traffic to one lanewill be suspended until the 5th of October to ease congestion, especially during rush hour.
 

BUSINESS
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has halted production until at least October after an August cyber-attack shut down its IT systems, costing the company around £50m a week. The UK government is considering emergency measures to support vulnerable suppliers, some of whom depend entirely on JLR’s business. Options include buying and stockpiling car parts or offering loans, amid fears of bankruptcies across the supply chain.

And - Nearly 90% of the 259,000 counterfeit toys seized at UK borders in 2025 were fake Labubu dolls, many of which failed safety tests and posed health risks. The IPO has launched the “Fake Toys, Real Harms” campaign to warn buyers, stressing that child safety must come before bargain hunting. With demand for authentic Labubus so high, Pop Mart now sells them only through an online lottery, while counterfeiters continue to flood the market.

Tennis - Katie Boulter said she was happy to put "a tough couple of months" behind her by beating Hailey Baptiste 7-5 5-7 6-4 in the China Open.

Cricket - Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will play for Sydney Thunder in this winter's Big Bash League and will become the first men's India international to play in the T20 league.
