Several arrests have been made after a man was found in Nice with multiple bullet wounds. He was discovered in an apartment near the Pont Michel in the early hours of this morning. An investigation has been opened.

A national tribute to the police officer who lost his life during a control near the A8 earlier this week will be held in Nice on Monday. The ceremony will be led by current Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. It will be held at the Ausseur barracks at 4pm. The suspect has been charged with the murder of a person in authority and is currently being held in pre-trial detention.

A seven year old girl has been seriously injured after being hit by a motorbike in Vallauris yesterday evening. The bike was part of a so-called urban rodeo and was traveling in the wrong direction on the road, according to local reports. A 19 year old has been taken into custody.

A new Secretary of State for Justice and Director of Judicial Services has been appointed in Monaco. The Palace in Monaco said today that Samuel Vuelta Simon, who is currently Prosecutor of the Republic at the Toulouse Judicial Court, is appointed to the position of Secretary of State, Director of Judicial Services, as of September 16. He replaces Sylvie Petit-Leclair who has held the position since June 2022. HSH Prince Albert II expressed his thanks to Madame Petit-Leclair for her work carried out at the head of the Judicial Services Department.

A partnership has been formed for the establishment of the first Inter-university diploma in Monegasque Law. The educational partnership was concluded between the Monegasque Institute for Training in Judicial Professions and the Faculties of Law and Political Science of the Côte d'Azur and Aix-Marseille Universities. The new diploma will allow law students from the Universities of Nice and Aix-en-Provence to train in Monegasque Law from the start of the school year. From September 2025, the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas will join the educational partnership.

 

BUSINESS

Inflation in France has fallen below the symbolic 2% level. Government statistics office INSEE said that annual inflation in August stood at 1.9%, down from 2.3% in July, which it attributed to a sharp slow down in energy prices.

Data released today also shows that inflation in the eurozone as a whole has dropped to its lowest level since mid-2021. Inflation in the Eurozone fell to 2.2% in August, down from 2.6% in July.

Meanwhile, inflation remained unchanged in the United States in July, according to a measure of inflation preferred by the US Federal Reserve. The Core Personal Consumption Expenditure index remained steady at 2.6% in July on an annual basis.
