4.8 magnitude earthquake in central Italy - Central Italy has been hit by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake struck at 05.10am local time on Monday morning, north of the city of Florence, throwing residents into the streets but causing no immediate casualties or damage, according to authorities.  Schools were closed in some areas as a precaution and trains were delayed pending checks on rail lines.
