22-year-old man shot dead in Marseille - A 22-year-old man has been shot dead in Marseille, the fatal shooting occurred on Sunday night in the Fons de Colombe housing estate, in the 3rd arrondissement. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances police believe it to be a settlement of accounts related to drug trafficking in the area. The victim, who was shot in the forehead, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services and was reportedly known to police.  This is the second homicide in Marseille since the beginning of the year. On Wednesday, a shooting left a 45-year-old dead and two injured in their twenties, in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille also known for its drug trafficking.

Since last May, seven men have been shot in this neighbourhood, one of the poorest in the city. On December 9th, an 18-year-old was found dead in a dead-end street in the Moulin de Mai housing estate. He was known for drug dealing. In 2022, one of the deadliest years for ten years, the Marseille prosecutor's office counted 31 victims of organized gang homicide in the Bouches-du-Rhône, including 28 in Marseille alone.
