Police evacuate Place de la Liberté in Toulon - Place de la Liberté in Toulon has been evacuated after a vehicle was abandoned at 7pm on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of a local tribute to "Charlie Hebdo" organized in front of the Théâtre Liberté. Bomb disposal experts inspected an abandoned car. The security perimeter was lifted at 9:15pm.

Police intervened to evacuate Place de la Liberté, the underground car parks, Rue Revel which leads to it, as well as a residential building. Police became suspicious after a motorist, seeing police officers present to ensure the security of the tribute to Charlie Hebdo organized in front of the Théâtre Liberté, abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. The car was later reported to be stolen. 

All the streets located in the station district between Place de la Liberté and the Alexandre-1er Garden were sealed off. The alert was lifted around 9:15pm. Some 150 people participated in the gathering in tribute to Charlie Hebdo, including the mayor of Toulon, Josée Massi, and the director of the Liberté theatre, Charles Berling.
