Mayor of Marseille denounces racism at football match in Nice

Mayor of Marseille denounces racism at football match in Nice – The mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan has denounced racist remarks during a football match at the Allianz Riviera stadium between OGC Nice and the Olympique de Marseille. Payan has called on the Professional Football League to take action after a racist banner was displayed by Nice supporters on Sunday evening. OM lost 2-0 against OGC Nice on the 19th day of Ligue 1 football. The message was reportedly branded by the Ultras Populaire Sud supporters and read "The sun is setting on the city of Nice... Let the rat hunt begin!". Nice beat second-placed Marseille 2-0 to move up to fourth place in the French league standings. Nice is owned by Manchester United part-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos company, which completed a takeover of the French club in 2019.
