Fire in Nice leaves woman in critical condition in hospital - A 37-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a fire broke out on the first floor of a building in Nice. 3 children were also seriously injured in the blaze. Firefighters intervened shortly after 5am this morning and managed to extinguish the fire. An investigation has been opened to determine the cause.

Forest Fire - At least 2,700 people have been evacuated on Tuesday night west of Marseille, to escape a violent fire which has now been controlled by fire services after having devastated more than 1,000 hectares.

Firefighters said that no one was injured but that the material damage remains to be assessed. Some 1,800 firefighters were mobilized against the fire which broke out late on Tuesday afternoon in the town of Martigues, west of Marseille.

Office block in Nice closes due to Coivd-19 cases - The “La Plaza” office block located in the L’Arénas district in the west of Nice has been closed to office workers after four cases of Covid-19 were declared amongst staff. The regional health authority began a testing campaign on Tuesday afternoon on all individuals working in the building.

Coronavirus figures for the region - Meanwhile the latest figures published by the Regional Health Agency for the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur have shown that while the number of people diagnosed with Covid-19 is increasing, the number of hospitalizations and deaths are not.

In the last seven days, 919 additional people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the Paca region but there has been no increase in severe cases.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, where the absence of barrier measures during The Avener's concert a month ago created a huge controversy and raised fears of an outbreak of cases, the situation remains stable. Figures show 190 deaths since the start of the epidemic, with 4 people in intensive care and the number of hospitalized coronavirus patients stands at 34.

In the Var, the ARS recorded one additional death in seven days, bringing the death toll to 139 since the start of the epidemic. Three people with Covid-19 are in intensive care, compared to only one the previous week. The total number of people hospitalized is up very slightly to 55.

The figures concern all age groups, including those over 75, who had experienced an excess mortality of nearly 15% during the peak of the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic in the spring.

Sanofi - Sanofi stands accused of “involuntary manslaughter” over the devastating effects of its epilepsy drug Depakine, suspected of causing birth defects in thousands of children whose mothers took the medicine while pregnant. Health authorities say the French company failed to warn pregnant mothers about the risks. The French group has said it will appeal.
