Video shows Yvan Colonna declare that one day “Corisca will be independent” - A video shot in January 2022 has shown the independence activist Yvan Colonna declare that “Corsica will one day be independent”. Colonna who died last week from his injuries following an attack by a fellow prisoner is seen in the video speaking to a Basque co-detainee two months before his death. During the footage, Yvan Colonna expresses his concern about the "dilution" of the Corsican population saying that “little by little we are disappearing… We are diluted by the arrival each year of thousands of “French” on the Island. Colonna at the time of the attack was serving life in prison accused of having murdered Corsica's Prefect in 1998. 

Motorist crashes into barrier of Port Canto high on cocaine - A motorist has been arrested after driving at high speed on the Croisette in Cannes and smashing into the barrier of Port Canto. He was reportedly under the influence of cocaine at the time. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at around midnight and the 30-year-old was spotted by police thanks to CCTV cameras. He is to appear in court in June and his driving license has been suspended for six months.

Opposition to road works between Cannes and Antibes - Opponents of the Golfe-Juan diversion have evoked "a first victory". The collective which is opposed to the construction of a deviation to ease traffic on the former RN 7 between Cannes and Antibes say the project does not respect the environmental code. The project, supported by the Departmental Council, aims to relieve traffic on the RD 6007 (formerly RN7) between Cannes and Antibes by creating an urban boulevard. A first section was inaugurated in 2018, between the Aube roundabout and Avenue Massier.

Six people charged for trafficking fake health passes in the region - Six people have been handed sentences by the Nice Criminal Court for having participated in the trafficking of fake health passes in the region. Nearly 200 QR codes were reportedly generated with the main ringleader of the organisation earning nearly 10,000 euros in revenue.

Two thirds of non-organic fruits, vegetables and cereals contain pesticide residues - According to the NGO Future Generations two thirds of non-organic fruits, vegetables and cereals consumed in France contain pesticide residues. The NGO has called for an "emergency plan to reduce the use of pesticides" and "increase support for organic farming".  According to the analysis 45.9% of all the samples, organic and non-organic, reveal pesticide residues above the limit of quantification.

Le Rétropézien takes place in Saint-Tropez this weekend - The 27th edition of “Le Rétropézien” is taking place this weekend in Saint-Tropez in the Var. The parade of vintage motorcycles will take to the region’s roads along the coast and in the hills of the Maures, gathering at the Place des Lices on Sunday.
