7-year-old killed in road accident - A 7-year-old child has died from his injuries after being hit by a car in Fréjus on Thursday evening. The tragic accident occurred shortly before 10pm, when a mother and her two children aged 7 and 9 were violently struck by a Range Rover vehicle at a roundabout, in the town centre. The victim’s older brother, who suffered a serious leg injury was transferred by helicopter to the Lenval Foundation children's hospital in Nice. The family from eastern France were holidaying in the region. Police have opened an investigation.

Bouches du Rhone has highest covid incidence rate in mainland France - During the health defense council on Wednesday, August 11, French President Emmanuel Macron underlined "the worrying state of the health situation in the PACA region". Recent figures have shown that the Bouches-du-Rhône department, which is part of the PACA region, is particularly affected by the increase in the number of Covid cases. Recording the highest incidence rate in mainland France, standing at 683, compared to the national average of 230.

90% of intensive care beds are occupied in the region with the average of patients being 57 and 99% of patients in intensive care have not been fully vaccinated.

In the Bouches-du-Rhône only 61.09% of the population received a first dose. Which is below the national average (67.5%).

Weather warning - The Var and the Alpes-Maritimes have been put on a Meteo France Orange alert for high temperatures until at least 4pm this afternoon. An Orange alert is the third highest alert level of the four levels used by Meteo France.

HSH Princess Charlene to undergo four-hour operation today - In a press release published today it's been announced that HSH Princess Charlene is scheduled to undergo a four-hour operation today, Friday, August 13, under general anesthesia. HSH Prince Albert and their children, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella will join HSH Princess Charlene during her period of convalescence.

Busy weekend on the roads - It's expected to be another busy weekend on the roads. It's another "crossover" weekend with some people arriving on holiday and some leaving. VINCI Autoroutes say that significant traffic is expected from today through until Monday on the main axes of the network, including the Rhone Valley, the Mediterranean coast and the Paris and Bordeaux areas. In our region, the A8 motorway between Aix-en-Provence and the Italian border will experience heavy to saturated traffic from today, especially on the outskirts of the main towns. Saturday will be the busiest day in both directions throughout the day. On Sunday the traffic will still be very dense from the end of the morning in the Aix-en-Provence.
