January 1st changes to the RSA and unemployment benefits

January 1st changes to the RSA and unemployment benefits - The 1st of January will see several changes introduced in France, as with the first of every month. From Wednesday 1st January those who benefit from the RSA (active solidarity income) will be automatically registered with France Travail. This will mean that new beneficiaries will have to inform the agency of their situation via an online questionnaire. They may be required to undergo an interview and sign a commitment contract that could force them to perform between fifteen and twenty hours of weekly activities, through training, internships or work placements. New unemployment insurance rules will also come into force including a two-year increase to the age limit from which senior unemployed people can benefit from a longer period of compensation (22.5 months from 53 to 55 years, and 27 months from 55 to 57 years). For other job seekers, the maximum period of compensation is 18 months and all basic retirement pensions will increase by 2.2% on January 1, in line with inflation.
