Interview with HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco on three major issues

Interview with HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco on three major issues - In an interview with local media and as part of the Principality’s National Day, Prince Albert II of Monaco has discussed three major issues; the second National Housing Plan, the creation or not of a waste treatment centre, and the future of the Fontvieille shopping centre, intended to be a place of leisure.

Firstly, a new National Housing Plan to continue the first, launched back in 2019, is deemed necessary and will be launched before next summer, with objectives to better adapt to the real needs of Monegasques and the land constraints of the Principality, taking into account what is really achievable. The first national housing plan in 2019 has since seen 633 quality apartments be made available and is considered to be a success.

Secondly, the waste treatment centre is being rethought with the government studying several scenarios, including one that includes a partnership with France, which will have to take into account the criteria of cost and respect for the environment. It is an ongoing project which has seen various conversations with elected officials in the neighbouring department but cannot yet be confirmed.

Finally, the future shopping centre in Fontvieille: The project is now being re-examined to meet local expectations in a balanced way while avoiding excessive size. The objective is still to offer an attractive and functional space that could satisfy businesses and users. We must demonstrate pragmatism and realism. The prince concluded that he is sure “they will manage to find solutions that are acceptable to all”.
