British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and President Emmanuel Macron have announced a so-called "one in, one out" migrant deal aimed at reducing migrant crossings across the English Channel. Speaking at a press conference in London during President Macron’s state visit to the UK, Kier Starmer said migrants arriving on small boats will be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers who have not tried to enter the UK illegally. President Macron said that he is "totally committed" to a pilot scheme which will begin within weeks. Other areas of cooperation between the two nations were also announced. Kier Starmer said the UK and France will strengthen collaboration on supercomputers and satellite connectivity and will also collaborate on artificial intelligence. He said that he and President Macron have agreed to stand together in support of European security and for Ukraine. He also announced that France and the UK will co-ordinate their nuclear deterrents for the first time.

A forest fire broke out yesterday in the Alpes-de-Haut-Provence. The local fire department said that shortly before 2:00 PM, a forest fire broke out in the town of Allemagne-en-Provence. The crisis management room of the departmental fire and rescue operations centre was activated.

Three people have lost their lives in a plane crash in the Savoie. The small tourist plane crashed near Chambery Airport. Authorities said that the three people who died in the accident were two women aged between 30 and 40 who were municipal employees and the 44 year old pilot.

Drinking water has been declared unfit for consumption in several municipalities in the Grand Est region of France. The ban has come into effect because of contamination by PFAS or so-called “forever chemicals”. Twelve municipalities in the Ardennes department and four in the Meuse department are affected. Bottled water is being supplied to residents.

It’s set to be a busy weekend on French roads. Government roads monitor Bison Fute has a red level warning for today for the whole country in the direction of departures. Saturday is set to be even worse with the whole of France on a red alert except for about a dozen departments, mostly in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, on a top level black alert for heavy traffic for departures. The Stade Louis-II in Monaco has unveiled its new website: www.stadelouis2.mc It involves a redesign to better inform, guide and promote one of the Principality's emblematic sporting venues and to support two highlights of this year - the 40th anniversary of the Stadium celebrated in January 2025, and the designation of Monaco as World Capital of Sport. The project is part of the Extended Monaco program , and was carried out in close collaboration between the teams of the Stade Louis-II Management and those of the Digital Services Department. Accessible in three languages, French, English, Italian, the site offers modernized navigation, adapted to mobile users, and provides new features to facilitate the experience of visitors such as a calendar of sporting events.

Italian chocolate maker Ferrero is acquiring iconic US breakfast cereal maker WK Kellog for $3.1bn in cash. Ferrero said it plans to invest and expand WK Kellogg's brands, which include Special K, Raisin Bran, Froot Loops and Rice Krispies. Ferrero is one of the world's biggest players in the chocolate market, with more than 30 brands globally and the company’s north America brands include Nutella, Kinder, Tic Tac and Ferrero Rocher.

Four people have been arrested by police investigating the recent cyber-attacks on Marks & Spencer, Harrods and the Co-op. The UK’s National Crime Agency said that two males aged 19, another aged 17, and a 20-year-old female were apprehended in the West Midlands and London on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences, blackmail, money laundering and participating in the activities of an organised crime group. All four were arrested at their home addresses and had their electronic devices seized for digital forensic analysis.

The US government is to become the biggest shareholder in the country's only operational rare earths mine. MP Materials, which owns the mine, has entered into an agreement with the US Department of Defense which aims to reduce America's dependency on imports of rare earth metals. Access to rare earth metals, which are used in electronics production, has been one of the most prominent features of the US-China trade war.

Tennis…The women’s final at Wimbledon tomorrow is going to be between Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek. Anisimova beat Arnya Sabalenka 4-6 6-4 4-6 and Swiatek beat Belinda Bencic 6-0 6-2.

Tour de France… Mathieu van der Poel has regained the race leader's yellow jersey by just one second after yesterday’s sixth stage, which was a hilly 201.5km route from Bayeux to Vire Normandie. Irish rider Ben Healy was the stage winner, which is his first Tour win.

Rugby Union… Owen Farrell has been named on the bench for the upcoming British and Irish Lions' tour match against the AUNZ Invitational side. It’s the final game before the Test series against Australia begins. He joined the tour last week as a replacement for Elliot Daly who is out because of injury. Scotland's Ben White starts at scrum-half in the match and Jac Morgan is at open-side flanker. Henry Pollock and Ben Earl are also named in the side.
