Evening Update Wednesday 22 October 2025

Storm Benjamin is on the way. It’s expected that the Atlantic coast and parts of north-west France will be worst affected, but Meteo France have yellow warnings for high winds in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes from 1pm to 8pm tomorrow. Gusts of up to 95 km per hour are expected in coastal areas during the day and the evening tomorrow.

Three more people have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Nice earlier this month. Two are aged 23, one is 18 and all are from the Gard department, according to the Marseille prosecutor’s office. Two people died and several were injured in the shooting in the Moulins district on 3 October. Several other suspects are already being held in pre-trial detention.

A couple have been arrested and charged on suspicion of unlawfully detaining a woman in the Loire-Atlantique. It’s alleged that they detained the woman in her forties at heir home for a period of several years and embezzled money from her bank account. The woman told authorities that she had manged to escape last Tuesday and was able to alert a neighbour.

President Macron has called for increased security at the Louvre after the break in last Sunday. The President and CEO of the museum is meeting senators today to discuss the circumstances surrounding the burglary. The Louvre re-opened this morning, although the gallery where the burglary took place remains closed.

Five new ambassadors to the Principality of Monaco have been accredited. They represent Israel, Timor Leste, Armenia, Argentina and Portugal. The new ambassadors presented their Letters of Credence to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and met with Ms. Isabelle Berro-Amadei, Government Counselor-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
