Former French President to appear in court this afternoon - Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to appear in court this afternoon in Paris for his appeal trial for corruption and influence peddling in the "wiretapping" case. 67-year-old Sarkozy was sentenced on March 1st, 2021 to three years' imprisonment, with a suspended one year sentence.  Becoming the first Head of State of the Fifth Republic to be handed a prison sentence. The same sentence was handed against his two co-defendants. All three have appealed, suspending the sanctions.
