Nice mayor wants to replace airport staff by military - After a near-collision and repeated delays at Nice Airport, Mayor Christian Estrosi has called on the French government to replace civilian air traffic controllers with the military. He argues staff shortages and safety concerns make the current situation unacceptable.

Cheese recalled due to Listeria contamination - Lidl has recalled batches of “Chêne d’Argent” raclette cheese sold across France after detecting Listeria contamination. Customers are advised not to consume it, return it to stores, or dispose of the affected packs.

Third day of strike - A third day of strikes is planned tomorrow to protest budget cuts and demand fiscal justice, but participation is expected to be lower than on the 18th of September in the Alpes-Maritimes department. Transport, school, and hospital services should face only minor disruptions, though demonstrations may cause some local delays.

Trains tonight in Monaco - Trains will run later than usual this evening in Monaco due to the Monaco vs. Manchester City Champions League match. The last TER trains will depart Monaco between 11 and 11:50pm, despite ongoing track works.

Fire - A fire broke out starting from an electrical meter at the "Le Clos des Lavandes" retirement home in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Vaucluse. Residents were safely evacuated, and no one was injured.

Private beaches in Menton - Four private beaches risk permanent closure after a court found irregularities in how their concessions were awarded, citing unequal treatment of candidates in Menton. Owners denounce the decision as unfair, while the final ruling is expected in three weeks.

Driving schools protest - Driving schools and examiners across France protested yesterday, demanding more exam slots as long delays leave students waiting months for a license test. In Nice, a century-old family-run driving school echoes the frustration, warning the shortage of inspectors is “asphyxiating” the profession.
 

NEWS UPDATE 
Motorway accident - A collision between a car and a truck has injured three people, including one seriously on the A8 motorway near Roquebrune-sur-Argens. Traffic was disrupted for over an hour before reopening, though delays continue.

Impromptu fire - A car caught fire this afternoon for unknown reasons on boulevard de l’Ariane in Nice. Firefighters quickly brought it under control, and no one was injured.
 

BUSINESS
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn his nomination of economist EJ Antoni to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics after firing its previous commissioner, sparking criticism of politicising economic data. A new nominee will be announced soon as concerns grow over the credibility of US jobs reporting.

And - Canada’s postal workers are on strike nationwide, halting mail delivery after the government announced sweeping reforms to Canada Post, including ending door-to-door service and closing post offices. The walkout stems from union opposition to job cuts and unresolved disputes over pay and benefits, while Canada Post faces steep financial losses.
 

SPORTS
Football - AS Monaco’s shaky defence has conceded an average of two goals per game since mid-August, raising major concerns ahead of facing Manchester City. Coach Adi Hütter admits concentration lapses, recruitment doubts, and the absence of Zakaria have left the team dangerously unbalanced.
