Missing 14-Year-Old Girl - Police have launched a public appeal to find a missing 14-year-old girl who disappeared on the 7th of April in Brignoles, Var. Her disappearance is considered worrying, and little is known about the reason for her runaway. She has dark hair, glasses, is of North African origin and measures 1m62 (5’3’’). Anyone with information is urged to contact the gendarmes or call emergency number 17.

False Emergency Call Leads to Swatting - A false emergency call on the 6th of April has led to a massive police deployment in central Nice, involving assault rifles and viral videos. The hoax, known as "swatting," falsely claimed a murder had occurred, triggering a high-risk police response. The caller, still at large, faces up to 2 years in prison and a €30,000 fine.

Red Cross Volunteers Received their Diplomas - In the presence of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, 1,331 Red Cross volunteers received their diplomas for completing first aid training in 2024 in Monaco. The ceremony highlighted the dedication of volunteers, with over 23,000 hours of fieldwork carried out during the year. Training is free and widely accessible in Monaco, reflecting a strong public health commitment.

Switching to Electric Garden Tools - The town of Mougins, Alpes-Maritimes, is offering residents a subsidy of up to 30% to switch from noisy gas-powered garden tools to quieter electric ones. After closing in 2016 for financial and renovation reasons, the historic Star cinema in Cannes is finally being rebuilt and is set to reopen by late 2025 or early 2026. Au Plaisir Sam & Co - The Cannes-based charity Au plaisir Sam & Co is raising funds to buy a van that will provide free veterinary care to stray and neglected animals, especially those belonging to people in need. Founded in 2024, the group combines human and animal aid through weekly outreach efforts. With a goal of €50,000, they hope to better serve vulnerable pets with a mobile care unit.

Kev Adam's Summer Comedy Festival - Kev Adams' summer comedy festival L’Humour à la Plage returns to Juan-les-Pins from the 26th to the 28th of June, featuring stars like Gad Elmaleh, Maxime Gasteuil, and Élodie Poux. The event includes evening galas, beachside comedy club sessions, and free daily masterclasses with comedians. This second edition aims for a tighter, more dynamic lineup while keeping a fun, family-friendly vibe.

Hazing Incident After Medical Students Part - Following a severe hazing incident in January that hospitalized a medical student, Université Côte d’Azur plans to ban all alcohol-related student association events at its science faculty in Nice. Four third-year medical students will face disciplinary action, and the university is seeking to dissolve the student group involved. Psychological support and legal steps, including informing the public prosecutor, are also underway.

Car Accident in Cannes - A car accident has occurred on Tuesday the 8th of April around 5:15 pm in Cannes, when a woman lost control of her vehicle and hit the curb near La Bocca. Fortunately, the driver, in her sixties, was unharmed and got out on her own. However, traffic is heavily disrupted, with partial road closure between Mandelieu and Cannes.
 

BUSINESS

And - Europa-Park will open a new Monaco-themed zone in spring 2026, inspired by luxury, speed, and the Côte d’Azur. It will feature a major rollercoaster referencing the Monaco Grand Prix and include décor, cars, and art linked to the principality. This collaboration stems from close ties between Europa-Park's founders and Monaco's royal family.
 

SPORTS
Cricket - Former Australia batter Will Pucovski has retired at the age of 27, saying he does not want to "risk doing any more damage" to his brain after repeated concussions. He made one Test appearance, scoring 62 against India in Sydney in 2021.

Football - Corinthians forward Memphis Depay has criticised a decision by the Brazil Football Federation (CBF) to punish players for standing on the ball during matches. The CBF has announced that players should be shown a yellow card if they stand on the ball with both feet and the opposing team awarded an indirect free kick.

Tennis - Swiss tennis legend Stan Wawrinka, 40, has lost in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 to Alejandro Tabilo at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters but hasn’t announced retirement yet. Though no longer at his peak, he continues playing for the joy of it and hopes for a wildcard to Roland-Garros. Despite physical challenges, his passion and iconic one-handed backhand remain crowd favourites. He is the only 40-year-old player in the world's Top 300.
