The search has continued today for Emile, the two year old who disappeared in the hamlet of Vernet in the Alpes-de-Haut-Provence last Saturday. At a press conference this evening the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains said that Emile has still not been found. He said that all thirty of the houses in the hamlet had been visited and twenty five people had been interviewed, twelve vehicles were searched and twelve hectares of land had been searched. The prefect announced yesterday that a more "targeted and selective" search is being employed today. No volunteer searchers are involved, with the search being entrusted to gendarmes and about ten soldiers who specialise in brush clearance.

UK wages have risen sharply fuelling fears that inflation will stay high for longer. Regular pay grew by 7.3% in the March to May period from a year earlier according to the Office for National Statistics. However, despite the record increase, pay rises still lag behind inflation which stands at 8.7% in the UK. The ONS also said that there were 128,000 working days lost because of labour disputes in May.

In a new report published today, the International Monetary Fund has said that the UK "faces a challenging economic outlook" and "ambitious reforms" are needed. It said that prior to the 2008 global financial crisis, the UK had been a strong performer among the G7 countries, but this momentum was lost in the middle of the last decade.
