The French Minister of Culture has said that an inquiry into the recent burglary at the Louvre had revealed a “chronic underestimation” of the risks of theft from the museum. Rachida Dati added that new security measures will be put in place before the end of the year including the installation of anti-ramming devices and increased training. 

A total of 138 violent deaths within couples were recorded by police last year, according to figures released today by the Interior Ministry. Of those, 107 were women, which is a rise of 11% compared to the previous year.

A group of lawyers has filed a complaint after Gerald Darminin visited former President Nicolas Sarkosy in prison earlier this week. The group accuse the Justice Minister of an illegal conflict of interest.

The Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes has issued a statement regarding the naming of streets. The Prefect said that the power to name thoroughfares rests exclusively with the Municipal Council. The statement follows the controversial announcement by Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi that he intends to rename a square in front of the police station in honour of Nicolas Sarkozy.
