BUSINESS

UK gross domestic product grew by 1.3% in the three months to September, according to the Office for National Statistics. The figure is much lower than the 5.5% rise in GDP recorded between April and June when many Covid restrictions were lifted.

Meanwhile the European Commission has said that the EU economy is rebounding from the pandemic recession faster than expected. It raised its forecast for GDP growth in the Eurozone to 5% for this year, and said that growth of 4.3% and 2.5% is expected in 2022 and 2023 respectively. It added that the outlook depends heavily on two factors - the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the pace at which supply adjusts to the rapid turnaround in demand following the re-opening of the economy.
