Evening Update Monday 3 November 2025

The public enquiry into the proposed line 5 of the Nice tramway is getting underway today. If approved, the 7.5km long line will be between Nice and Drap with 15 stops along the route. Construction is expected to begin next year and to last five years. 

The French social security budget saw a large increase in its deficit this year, according to a report by the Court of Auditors. The deficit is expected to stand at 23 billion euros in 2025, an increase of 7.7 billion over last year. The body said that the situation is not sustainable in the long term.

The French government is sending out energy vouchers to qualifying households starting today. The vouchers are usually sent out in the spring, but are exceptionally being sent out this month because of a delay in the adoption of the 2025 budget. The energy voucher is worth between 48 and 277 euros depending on income and the number of people in the household of the holder of the electricity contract.

A pedestrian in his forties has died after being struck by a vehicle on the Chemin de Sainte Marguerite in Grasse. The driver fled the scene but reportedly later turned himself in to police.

A teenager has been convicted of involvement in a credit card fraud scheme by the criminal court in Grasse. Victims received a telephone call to tell them to return their credit card to their bank and the 19 year old turned up to collect the cards. He received a sentence of 12 months house arrest with an electronic tag.
