Unions representing liberal doctors in France have called for a strike from October 13. They are calling for an increase in the price of consultations, amongst other demands.

Several French departments are on a Meteo France orange warning for storms and for heavy rain and flooding. They are the Drome and Isere. Several hundred homes have been without power in the Dordogne because of storms. Virtually all remaining departments, including the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes, are on a yellow warning, with only about a dozen departments, mainly in the north-west and south-west not under any warnings.

An investigation has been opened after the theft of items from a top fashion house shortly before the opening of Paris Fashion Week. The local prosecutor announced today that over fifty pieces had been stolen from the collection of Balmain in Paris over the weekend. In a post on social media one of the firm's stylists said that the firm's driver had been attacked by a group of people whilst driving from the airport to Balmain's headquarters. Fashion Week is taking place from 25 September to 3 October.

The Cannes Town Hall has installed new electric charging stations in car parks. 17 new charging stations for electric cars have been put in place, bringing the total to 73. Over half a million visits were made to the twelve public car parks in Cannes over the summer.

Riviera Radio is sad to announce the death of one of its investors, Mrs Joy Chambers Grundy at the age of 76. Mrs Grundy will be remembered as a Logie award winning actress, an author, a poet, a philanthropist and an exceptional business woman who worked alongside her husband, Reg Grundy, to build one of the largest independent production companies in the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.

 

BUSINESS

A body which advises central banks has warned of a sharper economic slowdown than expected next year. The Bank for International Settlements also said stock markets were at risk of ignoring the effects of persistent inflation.

Digital marketing company S4 Capital has warned of reduced revenues and profits for this year. The business, run by well-known advertising figure Sir Martin Sorrell, said that it was facing challenging global economic conditions and caution from clients. The company is reducing its workforce by several hundred employees.

 

SPORT

Netball... England women's team player Chelsea Pitman, has announced her retirement from international netball. The 35-year-old was a member of the gold-medal-winning squad at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Football... The former president of OGC Nice, Andre Bois has died at the age of 85. He was president at the time the club won the Coupe de France in 1997. Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi paid tribute, saying that he saved the club from closure in 1991.
