Dry January

Dry January - For the first time in France “Dry January” will begin on Wednesday 1st 2020 entitled in French the “Défi de janvier”. The operation similar to “tobacco free month” was started in the UK in 2013 and encourages members of the public to take a break from alcohol.

Initially “Dry January” in France was to be piloted by the Public Health agency, however the project was abandoned under the pressure of alcohol lobbies and was therefore resumed, without State support, by a group of associations and networks such as the “Ligue contre le cancer” and “SOS Addictions” amongst others.

According the Public health agency in France, alcohol consumption is the second cause of preventable death after tobacco.
