Blue March

Blue March – March is the month of mobilization against colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is a detectable and therefore preventable cancer. As with every year, the month of March is dedicated to raising public awareness for the prevention and screening of colorectal cancer. Supported by the Department of Social Affairs and Health, the Principality's health professionals along with the Princess Grace Hospital Centre as well as the Monegasque Screening Centre, the Blue Mars campaign mobilizes numerous organisations.

Colorectal cancer represents, in terms of mortality, the 2nd cancer in men and the 3rd in women and its prognosis depends on the stage of diagnosis: this cancer can, in some cases, be prevented thanks to screening for precancerous lesions which allows, in addition, early therapeutic treatment when cancer is detected. This is why all people aged 50 to 80, whether men or women with social insurance in the Principality, will receive a letter inviting them to be tested. A screening kit is available at the Monegasque Screening Centre located at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre, or on request from your GP, or from the Office of Occupational Medicine during a periodic medical examination.

The screening kit, once produced and placed in an envelope provided (pre-identified and pre-stamped), must be placed in a mailbox in the Principality, in order to be sent free of charge to the Biology Laboratory of the Princess Grace Hospital Centre. The results will then be sent to the person concerned as well as their GP within the following week. If the test is negative, a new one should be carried out two years later. In the event of a positive test, your GP will be directly informed by the Monegasque Screening Centre to organize the necessary colonoscopy control.

As part of the Blue Mars campaign, the Prince's Palace will be illuminated in blue on Friday March 1 to support this public health action. For any questions regarding colon cancer screening, please contact the Monegasque Screening Center at (+377) 97 98 83 02.
