Attack in Nice 

A knife attack in front of the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice has left at least two people dead and several more are injured.

The mayor of Nice Christian Estsori has declared a “terrorist attack”.

The alleged perpetrator has been arrested and police are demining the area. On Twitter, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced that he was opening a crisis unit following the attack.

The Alpes-Maritimes police are calling on the inhabitants of Nice not to approach the area of ​​the Notre-Dame basilica. "The detonations you hear are those caused by the national police services, do not panic, the situation is under control",

MP Eric Ciotti has announced that both French President Emmanuel Macron and the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin are expected to arrive in Nice.

A minute’s silence has just been held at the National Assembly, in tribute to the victim of the knife attack. The meeting on new lockdown measures has been suspended.
