Minister of Interior to visit Saint-Raphael - The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin is to visit Saint-Raphaël in the Var today. The official trip began at 10am with a visit to a municipal police station in the Valescure district. The Minister of the Interior will take the opportunity to inaugurate the town’s new urban supervision center.

Galarie Géant Mandelieu no longer requires health pass - The health pass is no longer mandatory in one of the six shopping centers in the Alpes Maritimes. The Nice administrative court has ruled that the “Galarie Géant Mandlieu” will no longer require the health pass. It does however remain in force at Cap 3000, Auchan La Trinité and in the three Carrefour stores in Nice and Antibes.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence in black – Saint-Paul-de-Vence one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera, well known for its modern and contemporary art museums and galleries has denounced its absence in the classification as an International Tourist Zone (ZTI), which allows shops to open on Sundays and until midnight.

Local traders draped a black sheet over their shopfronts and on  the village fountain on Wednesday demanding a support plan from the tourism sector to preserve the economic cultural and artistic activity of the town after many shops have suffered from the covid crisis and the absence of foreign tourists who represent more than 65% of their turnover.

Former health minister to appear in court - France’s former Minister of Health Agnés Buzyn will appear in court tomorrow Friday 10th September as part of the investigation into how the French government managed the health crisis. Buzyn, resigned in mid-February 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Contraception pill - France’s Minister of Health Olivier Véran has announced that free contraception for women will be extend to 25 years of age, it is currently 18. The measure, the cost of which he estimates at 21 million euros, will be implemented from January 1, 2022.

National tribute to Jean Paul Belmondo – France will pay a national tribute to the actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, who died on Monday at the age of 88. French President Emmanuel Macron will lead the ceremony at 4.30pm this afternoon in the Cour d'honneur of the Hôtel des Invalides, followed by a minute of silence and the Marseillaise. The public will be able to pay their respects in front of his coffin from 7.30pm this evening at the Invalides.

French singer Renaud announces new album - French singer Renaud is to revisit classics of French songs, from Yves Montand to Françoise Hardy, in his new album expected next year. The 69-year-old singer is preparing a new studio album, the 19th of his career, for the month of February. Renaud had most recently, in the summer of 2020, released the Corona Song, in which he sang of his weariness in the face of the pandemic.
