Macron under pressure as French political crisis deepens - French President Emmanuel Macron is facing growing calls to resign or call a snap election amid ongoing political chaos that has seen five prime ministers quit in two years. Former PM Edouard Philippe urged Macron to step down “in an orderly manner,” while ex-ally Gabriel Attal criticised his leadership, saying he “no longer understands” the president’s decisions. Markets have reacted nervously, and public frustration is mounting.

Mayor of Nice publicly calls for Macron to resign - Meanwhile, locally, the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi, has publicly called on Macron to resign, urging him to “take responsibility for the national interest.” Estrosi argues that with the political deadlock making it impossible to pass the 2026 budget, Macron should step down to allow the French people to elect a new parliamentary majority capable of enacting necessary reforms. The mayor emphasized the urgent need for action before the 2027 elections to address France’s key challenges.

New verification on bank transfers – In other news, from tomorrow, Thursday October 9th, 2025, Eurozone banks will use a real-time system to check if the beneficiary’s name matches the IBAN during bank transfers. Customers will be notified if there’s an exact match, partial match, no match, or if verification fails. They can then confirm or correct the transfer but can still proceed even if there’s a mismatch. This aims to reduce fraud and errors. Banks won’t be liable for transfers made despite mismatches. Users are advised to always use full and accurate beneficiary names.

Stade Louis-II to get red and white seats - After four years of requests from AS Monaco supporter groups, Christophe Mirmand, Monaco’s Minister of State, has confirmed that the yellow seats at Stade Louis-II will be replaced with the club’s traditional red and white colours. Renovations at the stadium will continue until 2035. Mirmand joked he hopes the seats will be “seen as little as possible” during matches, as that would mean a full stadium and a successful season for AS Monaco.

Monaco autumn fair - Meanwhile, Monaco’s beloved autumn fair returns from Friday, October 17th to Wednesday, November 19th at Port Hercule, offering rides, lights, and festive treats. The fair runs daily from 11am to 11pm.  Halloween costumes are welcome but no weapon-like accessories.
